  • Registration: Employers must obtain a Profession Tax Registration Certificate (PTRC) if they have employees whose monthly salary exceeds ₹7,500. Registration is mandatory within 30 days of employing such an individual. A separate PTRC is needed for each location if the business operates from multiple sites.

Simultaneously, all businesses, including Proprietorships, Partnerships, Private Limited Companies, LLPs, or OPCs, must obtain a Professional Tax Enrollment Certificate (PTEC) for themselves.

  • Deduction of Tax: Employers are responsible for deducting profession tax from their employees’ salaries based on prescribed tax rates. These deductions are made monthly.
  • Payment of Tax: The deducted profession tax must be remitted to the government. Payment due dates are determined by the employer’s enrollment date.
  • Return Filing: Registered employers are required to furnish periodic returns detailing salaries and wages paid, along with the amount of tax deducted. Electronic filing is typically mandated. The filing frequency depends on the tax liability from the previous year.
